Claude Tyson (call me Ty):

Ty works as a real estate team with his wife, Laurie Bley, and together they bring a range of life experiences and skills that make them ready to tackle anything. Every day in the real estate world has posed unique challenges and opportunities for creative problem solving, and being nimble and able to approach things from many perspectives has been crucial.

Ty was born and raised in Durham. After earning his engineering degree at NCState, he built a career with high-tech companies in Texas and Japan before starting his own internet security consulting firm.

Ty got his private pilot’s license as a teen and spent a lifetime enjoying flying his own smaller planes. He also has a BAFF in Aircraft Science, taught Aviation Electronics, and became licensed to do his own maintenance on both planes and helicopters.

Both of these enterprises require 100 percent precision, absolute clarity and calm, and an attention to detail that takes no prisoners. That same instinct applies to the thorough and rigorous way that defines how he approaches real estate. He has a hawk’s eye on every administrative detail and the spreadsheets to back up every analysis.

As a natural tinkerer, he has hand built a solar array from scratch, designed and patented water conservation products, and can fix pretty much anything, anywhere, anytime, with jerry-rigged tools and a sense of adventure. Speaking of adventure, he has been a skilled scuba diver, hang glider, water skier, snow skier, and windsurfer, and he’s hiked the Grand Canyon and all the National Parks. He brings this can-do spirit and sense of adventure to every real estate project as well.

Ty is hands-on in the most literal sense: he's the one who'll put on a hard hat and knee pads and personally check under a house before you ever get to the point of calling in the professional inspectors. He believes clients deserve that level of diligence on what is surely one of the most important transactions of their lives. He’s taken self-defense classes and CPR and once, while showing a property, he helped tend to a woman who was found unconscious and bleeding profusely until the ambulance came. He brings this steady, ready-for-anything presence to every part of a transaction. But he also brings a warmth and a sense of humor that make the whole project a lot of fun. Ty will always have a tool kit, and it will hold any number of surprising things, but for sure he’ll be the one to always remember to have packed snacks and cool drinks for you.
